Yesterdays craziness!
• Repair: It appears home was built over the cistern from the original house that was built on the property likely between 1875 and 1920. The main girder passes directly over the cistern and likely originally had supports resting on the top of the cistern. At some point the top of the cistern likely collapsed likely causing visible distress within the home at which time the issue was discovered. A large steel beam was installed to span the cistern and tenuous stacks of lose concrete block and rocks were installed to re-support the main girder. This is a significantly non-standard configuration requiring review by a licensed structural engineer.
This is best thing about what I do…never a dull moment!
• Safety Issue: The master bathroom hanging light fixture is improper (See photo 16 page 10). No part of a hanging light fixture should be within 8’ vertically of a bathtub rim. A surface mount light should be installed.
